Cloverfield

What to say about this movie? I was blown away! I liked the way that everything is being told via a handy cam instead of the third person perspective (although a lot of people complain about it).  You have no idea where the movie is heading within the first few minutes but when the attack comes.. man! Really good shit! :) Also a nice non-typical hollywood ending for once.

Rendition

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Without a doubt this is one of the best movies of 2007 I’ve seen.  A very tense non typical hollywood movie (I can imagine that the movie is not nominated for the upcoming oscars due to its political influence).

Rendition refers to ‘extraordinary rendition’ — a term whereby suspected terrorists in the US can be sent, without the legal consent of their parents nations, to prisons abroad to be questioned and detained.

The definition actually tells everything what the movie is about. A very strong cast (including one my favorite actors : Jake Gyllenhaal) carries the movie. The story is about a husband/father who originally is an Egyptian but lived in the US for the past 20yrs and is on a business trip in South Africa. During his return flight a bombing took place in Egypt and an American (accidentally) got killed. Therefore the CIA decides to apply the rendition rule onto the husband/father and take him back to Egypt for some ‘interrogation’…

One advice.. SEE THIS MOVIE!

btw I’m pretty scared to go the US right now. For all you know I might be taking hostage as well and being forced to confess something I didn’t do! ;)

A comedy/romantic feel-good movie about a guy who’s department gets outsourced to India and he is asked to train the people in India and make sure that they reach a certain quota. He finds out the hard way what the cultures differences are and you will see him adapting to the new world.

Gone baby gone

Story about a little girl that is reported lost by her drug-addicted mother. This movie is Ben Afflecks director debut and he has done a very good job at it! He got a lot of good actors and his very own brother to star in this film. This movie will make you think about ethics and what is the right thing to do in certain circumstances..

Biography Saturday Night Live

I’m a big fan of SNL, although we can’t watch it over here in Holland. Luckily enough we can get the "The best of SNL .. <actor>" dvd’s and the eps are downloade through not so legal sites, so I’ve seen a lot of them! Watching this biography I was fascinated to discover that when SNL first started in the late ’70s it was canceled.. Got back in the air again.. got canceled again and then aired yet again! A lot of good comedy actors found their way to the big screen through the use of SNL (like Will Ferrel, Adam Sandler, Mike Meyers, Chevy Chase and Dan Akroyd to just name a few).

During this documentary you will see what it’s like from the beginning of the week right up until the airing of that week’s show. In between you’ll see a lot of interviews with different cast members and SNL’s originator Lorne Michaels.

Stardust

Another fantasy story! I had to see this one because not only Michelle Pfeiffer but Robert De Niro (as a gay pirate!) are in this one as well! The story is a mix of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Very lovely christmas type of movie ;)

Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

I was blown away by this movie. I had to see this one because it starred both Natalie Portman and Dustin Hoffman so ofcourse it had to be good ;) The story is about Mr Magorium (Hoffman) who owns a magical toy store.. and when I say magical.. it is magical! He decides at the age of 243 to leave the world and let the store in the good hands to Molly (Portman)..
A very heartwarming film with an ultimate happy ending! Really loved this one!

The Truman Show

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

Brilliant comedy drama movie with Jim Carrey. I’ve seen the movie a couple of times and it never gets boring. Really fascinating topic (it was back in those days with the reality show Big Brother) filmed in very clever way.

The Comebacks

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

A really awful (in a good way) spoof comedy about a coach who failed at everything in his whole life and wins in the end. I really loved the bus hitting scenes :)

Wedding Daze/Pleasure of your company

Nice romantic comedy with Jason Biggs and Isla Fisher. Makes you think about relationships and finding the real one(s) in your life.
